英国曼彻斯特，一栋郊区房子里的住户们各自过着不同于彼此的人生。看似有着一墙之隔，生活却将他们牵到了一起，像每个人一样，看似平常的人生中总会有着一些不同寻常。随着人物故事的逐渐交织，他们开始因为各自隐藏的秘密，以从未料想到的方式被联系到一起……。新搬来的公寓这家人是母亲惠子带着四个孩子：明、京子、茂、雪。但母亲却得对周围的人们撒谎说丈夫去海外工作，自己与长子两个人在一起生活。事实是其它三名弟妹是“黑孩子”，因为四个孩子有着各自不同的父亲。他们一直呆在家中，没有去学校上学。 在母亲去百货商店工作时，年纪尚小的明就在家中代替母亲行使家长的职责。突然有一天母亲不见了，她把手中仅有的20万日元现金和一张短短的便条留给了孩子们，把弟妹托付给明看管后，就悄然地离家出走。 无亲无故，对外面几乎一无所知的四个孩子们，要开始面对新的生活，那实在不是件容易的事情……。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。
